Today, Instagram and TikTok are the largest social networks with an audience of more than a billion people around the world. Such a success has not yet been repeated by any platform for publishing content, so the competition between these mobile applications is becoming more intense every month.
A natural question arises: which social network to choose for yourself – TikTok or Instagram? And what are the main differences between these programs?
Instagram VS TikTok
Instagram is a mobile application for sharing photos and videos with other users. Numerous filters and effects that can be applied to published posts and stories (temporary posts) are helpers in creating unique content.
The main audience of Instagram is young guys and girls aged 20 to 30.
TikTok is a service for posting and watching short videos that are between 15 and 60 seconds long. The application also has built-in tools for creating interesting videos: various masks and effects, the function of adding an audio sequence, and much more.
Instagram or TikTok
TikTok’s audience is much younger than that of Instagram – the service is more focused on teenagers, and the category of users over 25 makes up no more than 35% of the total number of registered accounts. However, in 2020, the popularity of TikTok has skyrocketed and, possibly, over time, there will be many more adult tiktokers on the service.
Instagram’s official “date of birth” is October 6, 2010. It was on this day that an application for sharing photos appeared on the App Store. Gradually, the functionality of the service began to become more complicated: hashtags, filters for publications, Stories and much more appeared.
TikTok is a relatively young social network. It was created in September 2016 and was named “Douyin”. Later, a copy of this application was released, which was called Tik Tok. In November 2017, ByteDance acquired the musical.ly social network and merged it with TikTok in August 2018, after which the application appeared in the form in which we are used to seeing it.
According to this indicator, TikTok is practically not inferior to Instagram – both have more than 1 billion installations on Google Play. Only the number of estimates is different: the first one – 31 million, the second – 112 million.
On Instagram, users publish photos and videos, post temporary publications, and also actively conduct live broadcasts on which they communicate with their subscribers on various topics.
All TikTok content is based on short videos. The possibility of conducting a live broadcast has appeared quite recently and so far it is not very popular.
Most of TikTokers and Instagrammers pursue the same goal – to attract an audience. Sometimes all the content on the page is directed towards this. Another question is why users need a large audience. Everyone will have their own answer: some advertise products or services in this way, others promote their own opinion and experience to the masses, and others simply share their achievements and creativity.
TikTok monetization is based on the number of views under the video – the more, the higher the earnings So, for a million views, you are paid from $ 10 to $ 20. To promote mobile applications, online stores and other services, TikTok uses a special tool – TikTok Ads. With its help, advertisements are shown in the user’s recommendation feed or during the launch of the platform. You can target by gender, age, location, interests and other parameters.
There is also targeted advertising on Instagram, which is displayed in the feed of the social network and in Stories. Unlike blogging ads, targeting is quick to launch and easier to control.

There are not so many ways to link TikTok to Instagram:

- Select the video you want to post.
- In the panel to the right of the clip, click on the “…” button.
- In the “Share” section, choose where you want to post the video – to Instagram feed or Stories.
The user can also publish a newly created video simultaneously on several sites – on TikTok and Instagram:
- Go to TikTok and click on the “+” button in the bottom bar.
- Remove content or load already created and click “Next”.
- There will be several icons of different social networks in the new window below. Select the Instagram icon and click Publish.

Nickname in the video description
If a person does not want to enter data from social networks in the interface of third-party applications, he can mention the name of his Instagram profile in the description of the TikTok account. For this:
- Copy the nickname or link to your Instagram account to the clipboard.

The second popular issue is the “Please try again later” message. In this case:
- Delete TikTok from your smartphone.
- Change your Instagram password.
- Disconnect from the Internet.
- Restart your smartphone.
After all these manipulations, you can install TikTok again by clicking on the “Download” button on the application page in the Play Market or AppStore. Registration should go smoothly.
